Bad Economy, Take advantage of it.

Think outside the box!

Have you ever been driving around town and notice a business that closed or an empty lot in a high traffic area?

Take your business to that high traffic area! Find the agent, manager or owner of the property and negotiate a lease on the property. Make sure it is in a very high traffic area. (This helps the land owner and you)

WHAT WOULD I DO WITH IT?

I have a client that I consulted, he was in the car detailing business and also sold high end rims. He came to me to see how I could help him maximize his profits and increase units of sale.  1st thing that came to my mind was to approach a business that just lost a tennant. It was in a high traffic area that had extra parking and negotiate a lease for the weekend.

We negotiated a lease for a Friday, Sat, Sun, for him place his products out there.

Marketing is a #’s Game:

From the study I came up with there was at least 30,000 cars pass daily and on the weekends even more. Long story short, he sold 20 sets of rims & tires and many, many detailing packages. More than enough for his lease. This wouldn’t off happen if he stayed in his retail shop “praying” for customers to walk in the door. In the summers his business is there once a month.

Other’s have done the same.  A small auto place has packed up and left but today you smell the romantic flavor of smoked BBQ in the wind. And a line that looks promising to the business owner of a little BBQ pit. Shortly down the same road a big retailer moved out and its vacant, but you wouldn’t notice because the parking lot is filled with cars and a local farmer selling all his fresh produce, flowers, and garden supplies. All locations that they currently use, was a business that either filed bk or moved locations.

* Check with the local laws and business to see certain types of licenses and permits*

Don’t play the victim role:

They say that even in the worse economies the Rich get Richer, so why can’t you and your small business? If a business has went bankrupt and there space is available go after it. Chances are the owner of the building needs it to be rented so you can use it and maybe even get a great deal.

Being an entrepreneur is about being more than just  a profiteer. Its about servicing your community, playing your role as a creator of jobs and services. Start thinking out-side the box and see how your business can impact your community. Once you start thinking along these lines you will profit. Referrals will flow like the water over the Niagara.
